Saving money can be a challenge in this day and age when everything from parking to eating a nice meal can take a hit on your wallet. However, there are some things that all of us can do to make saving money a priority. Changing your ways can be a challenge but saving might enable you to get that new car, apartment, or college education. Managing your finances can be tricky. Here are 10 tips for becoming a super saver:

Make a budget
Calculate exactly how much money you are bringing in each month and compare that to the money you are spending. Identify places where you can sacrifice spending to pad your savings account.

Pay yourself first
On pay day, move the amount you have decided to save directly to your savings account before allocating money for other things.

Limit small purchases
Go without that fancy coffee, manicure, or spur of the moment extra purchase in the grocery store. You will notice a huge savings! Cutting back on your vices like smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol will also drastically help fill your bank account.

Look for activities that are free
Check out your local library and recreation center for free family activities. Why spend a fortune when you can have fun for free?

Sell your old stuff
Use Facebook, Craigslist, or various other apps on your phone to list your old and unwanted items for sale. Why throw it away or hoard it in your closet when it could mean more money in your wallet?

Don’t be afraid to buy used items
From second hand clothes and cars to books and appliances, usually you can find what you need at a huge savings if you buy it used.

Eat at home or bring lunch when possible
Eating out at a restaurant usually costs significantly more than making your own meal. If you can cook and have left overs that can be easily reheated, it’s easy and cost effective to have a nice meal.

Buy in bulk and use generic brands
If you can buy a larger package of something, you will save money and save time having to buy that item multiple times throughout the month or year.
Buying generic brands cuts costs while usually upholding quality for many products.

Share when possible
From ride sharing to sharing your house, if you can get someone else to help you pay for something, the benefits will outweigh any inconvenience.

Have dreams and goals
If there is something specific that you want or need to pay for, keep that in sight when you are considering a spur of the moment splurge to buy something you really don’t need. You are smart and worth the effort to save money for the big items or experiences you hope to have!
