Manhattan
Some of the most popular activities are: visiting the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center, seeing the lights on 5th Ave, outdoor ice skating, tours through Central Park, and finding good deals on your holiday shopping.
Pros: Lots of fun things to see and do in close proximity.
Cons: The cold. Visit when the temperatures aren’t super low. Getting to/from the city or parking can be expensive. Bring with you all that you might need (including food and water,) so you won’t have extra expenses.

Decorated holiday houses
Tour neighborhoods to enjoy decorated houses and businesses. The “Christmas Light Show” at 21 N. Kensico Ave, White Plains is a great place to visit. It starts on Nov. 25th.
Pros: Free entertainment for the whole family.
Cons: There can be traffic at peak times.
Train ride (Metro-North)
Take the train from Tarrytown to Peekskill and enjoy a tour along the Hudson River. Another option is to continue to Cold Spring, a charming and historic village.
Pros: Lots of great views of the river. At the end of the route treat yourself to a coffee or a walk in town before returning.
Cons: Cost of the train tickets. Children 0-5 are free. Children 5-11 ride free with an adult on weekends.
Short-distance trips
Plan a day trip or a weekend getaway. Some options are visiting Pennsylvania, Atlantic City, or Boston.
Pros: Planning the trip in advance might lower the cost. Search online for cheaper hotel or airbnb options.
Cons: Transportation and accommodation expenses.
Parks with panoramic views
Seven Lakes, NY: Start at Lake Tiorati and then head to Silver Mine Lake. From there, continue to Bear Mountain State Park. On the way home, allow yourself to stop at the Bear Mountain Scenic Overlook.
Nyack Beach State Park: Offers a great panoramic view of the Hudson River. Before returning home, stop by town for a hot beverage.
Pros: Both can be enjoyed from inside the car. Bring a hot chocolate to make the scene perfect.
Cons: Boredom on long journeys can be challenging. Remember to play games with children while driving.
Winter sports
Plan a day of skiing or tubing for people of all ages.
Some local ski areas are Mohawk Mountain in CT, Catamount, Thunder Ridge, and Camelback.
Pros: Guaranteed fun.
Cons: The cost of the lift tickets and equipment rental can be high. Wear waterproof clothing to protect from the cold is essential.
Indoor recreational places
For young kids, The Play Place in Elmsford has everything for a fun low cost day. Stamford Town Center also has a free play area for children.
Sportime USA in Elmsford and Rockin’ Jump in Mount Kisco and Yonkers can be a suitable option for enjoyment at all ages.
Pros: Fun at low or no cost for young kids.
Cons: Young adult activity costs are higher.
Museums

Paseo en tren (Metro-North)
