How to make your commute a time
for learning and fun
5 minutes to the store,
10 minutes to the summer camp, 15 minutes to a doctor appointment, and hours to a vacation destination. This is valuable time that we dedicate
to transportation.
Now that traffic has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, why not make this a time for learning and fun? Here are some examples of games that will entertain people of all ages.
Game 1: opposites
This game can be done entirely in Spanish or in English and Spanish.
A participant says an adjective to which the partner must state the opposite (examples: tall, clean, cute, fast, etc.) The participants must answer the opposite in the chosen language.
Game 2: colors
The adult says a color in English and the child says the color in Spanish. There is no winner or loser.
Game 3: do not repeat
A topic can be selected from which all possible related words will be shared (for example, animals.)
One player starts by saying the name of an animal. The person who follows must say another animal and so on until one of the players repeats an animal that has already been said.
Game 4: crazy phrases
A participant starts by saying a word, for example, “the.” The next player will also say “the” but will also add another word, “the cow.” In this way, all participants must add words to create crazy phrases. The participant that does not repeat the whole phrase in the correct order loses.
It is beneficial to take advantage of commute time by playing games that increase interaction between adults and children. Never neglect focus on driving. For this reason, it is advisable that only the passengers play these games and not the driver.

prepandemia ¿por qué no hacer del camino un espacio de aprendizaje y diversión?
Aquí algunos ejemplos de juegos para todas las edades que entretendrán a chicos y grandes.
Juego 1: los opuestos
Este juego puede realizarse enteramente en español o en inglés y español. Un participante dice un adjetivo, ejemplo: alto, limpio, lindo, rápido, etc. El otro o los otros participantes deberán buscar el opuesto y decirlo en lengua elegida.
Juego 2: los colores
El adulto dice el color en inglés y el niño lo repite en español. No hay ganador ni perdedor.
Juego 3: a no repetir
Debe seleccionarse un tema del que se buscarán todas las palabras relacionadas que sean posibles. Por ejemplo, animales. Comienza con un jugador diciendo el nombre de un animal. La persona que le sigue deberá decir otro animal y así sucesivamente hasta el momento que uno de los jugadores repetirá un animal que ya fue dicho anteriormente.
Juego 4: frases locas
Un participante comienza diciendo una palabra, por ejemplo, “la”. El jugador siguiente también dirá “la” pero además agregará otra palabra, “la vaca”. Así sucesivamente, todos los participantes deberán agregar palabras hasta crear frases locas. La manera ideal es seguir los turnos en círculo. Pierde el que no repite la frase en el orden correcto.
Este artículo tiene como intención el aprovechar el tiempo de transporte en juegos que aumenten la interacción entre adultos y niños. Nunca descuide el manejo. Es aconsejable que solo participen en los juegos los pasajeros y no el conductor.
